The Ancient China of 5000 years were familiar to the world; Emperor Shi Huang Di and the terracotta, the Great Wall, the Silk Road and Dun Huan. A great array of discoveries of early Chinese civilization fascinated the world for centuries. However the world seems to know very little of the new China that is being built. The reform and opening that started in 1979 will be entering 3 full decades by 2008; a brand new China is stepping forward on to the global stage. China is returning to center stage as an important contributor in the global economy and in the new world order. Made in China, China as the world’s largest consumer market, China’s grand construction and rebuilding, the renaissance of the Chinese culture are new events that are giving rise to the New China.

All our language and culture programs are integrated with knowledge on contemporary China which is unique to GHCC. Our aim is to show you the new world the Chinese are building for themselves, and how this new world in turn is influencing and reshaping the entire world. Close to 30 years of reform and opening has created a new China which is made by a combination of external and internal driving forces. Foreign direct investment, the participation of overseas Chinese and foreigners, trade and globalization have been the key external driving forces shaping the new China. Urbanization, the privatization of the Chinese economy and the experiment to build a market economy with Chinese characteristics are the internal driving forces.
